Word-JuiceWord-Juice
(iPhone & iPad)

Welcome to WordJuice

Your task is simple: squeeze as much juice from the oranges as you can in three minutes.

To squeeze juice from an orange, you have to create words! Each orange is divided into 8 segments (three vowels and five consonants) AND a central vowel. Tap the letters to make a word, then tap 'GO' to squeeze the orange and start juicing! Each word must be three or more letters long and MUST include the central vowel. The longer the word, the more juice you'll make and if you use words with trickier letters, such as J, Q and Z, you'll make even more juice! If you make a mistake, tap the 'X' button to delete, one letter at a time, or hold the 'X' button to clear the whole word.

After squeezing three or more words from an orange, you can ask for "FRESH FRUIT PLEASE". You will be given a fresh orange with new letters. Only do this if you are running out of words to squeeze from your orange, as the multiplier will reset to zero! The more words you squeeze from a single orange, the more effectively the points multiplier works. Reach the top of the multiplier and start scoring BIG points!

Every time you "squeeze" a word you'll light a part of the multiplier meter. Reach the top to start scoring BIG points! But be careful. If you end up asking for "FRESH FRUIT PLEASE" the multiplier will reset.

Game Center enabled to add to the fun!!

Happy juicing!

iVisualiseriVisualiser
(iPad)

They say the simplest ideas are often the best ideas… iVisualiser is the perfect presentation tool for both education and industry alike. Carefully designed to be incredibly simple to use, iVisualiser is a powerful app for collaboration, still-image AND live video annotation ...and review.

Thanks to Leon Cych for putting together this excellent and informative review of the iVisualiser app. Find out more about Learn 4 Life here.

iVisualiser uses two distinct modes to enable you to share ideas/ work (...or just about anything you can take a photo of) and display these on a large screen such as a whiteboard.

VISUALISER:

Use Visualiser to create a live video feed of your document or image. Annotate freely around screen with a variety of colours and line thicknesses. You can record a video of the screen as you annotate and can even record a live commentary at the same time - this will automatically save to camera roll for playback and/or review at a later point.

Use our exclusive LASER POINTER tool to highlight anything without drawing!

Use the FREEZE tool to pause the screen at any point - you can even do this whilst recording video.

Zoom in or out on any document or image or take a screenshot of your annotations which then automatically save to the camera roll.

ANNOTATOR:

Use the Annotator to annotate an image (either from your camera roll or taken in-app using your device's camera). Take a screenshot of your annotations, clear them OR pass them to someone else to add their ideas. Original photos taken within the app are automatically saved to your camera roll for use again later. You can even choose to save the photos once multiple annotations have been completed OR at any point within the annotation process - the ultimate in flexible usage!

Combined with Apple TV or any third-party mirroring software, iVisualiser will transform the way you share ideas; whether it's in the boardroom or the classroom.

Please note: You must allow the app access to your microphone and photographs in order to record video or save and access images.

The Christmas Story MachineChristmas Story Machine
(iPad)

The Christmas Story Machine helps both pupils and busy classroom teachers to plan Christmas Stories (over a million combinations are possible...and that's no exaggeration!).

The machine has eight parts:

1 Opening
2 Main character/s
3 Other character/s
4 Setting
5 Dilemma
6 Random Language Feature
7 Objects
8 Ending

Pupils 'spin' each of the eight parts of the machine (up to three times) to reveal a HUGE range of genre-appropriate ideas.

When ALL eight parts have been 'spun' the story machine collates all of the ideas into one printable sheet which can be used as a stimulus for a Christmas Story.

It's NOT prescriptive - pupils can include as many of the ideas as they wish but they don't have to include all of them. Whether they include a few or every one they certainly will be learning a great deal about the genre.

This is the third in a series of Story machines which will cover all narrative genres. Check out our Science Fiction Story Machine and Fairytale Story Machine!

The Pocket Curriculum for England is the definitive app for teachers and parents who want the new National Curriculum at their finger tips. We've put a lot of time and effort in designing this app to look good and be easy to use.

From September 2014, a new National Curriculum becomes statutory in England and this handy app puts everything you need to know in one place.

All 11 National Curriculum documents for Key Stages 1 and 2 are included and no internet connection is required to read them.

Additionally, all 12 National Curriculum documents for Secondary Education are now included. Please note, a number of subjects (including Maths, English and Science) are still in consultation for Key Stage 4. Where this is the case, the Key Stage 3 document has been included.

Additionally, you can send them to friends or colleagues directly from within the app or print using any AirPrint enabled printer!

For educationalists, we've provided the latest Department for Education updates so you're always up-to-date with the latest educational news.

Please note: This app contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v2.0 and requires iOS 5 or later.

The Alan Peat Guide To...
Writing Gruesome Ghost StoriesGruesome Ghost Stories
(iPad)

'The Alan Peat Guide To Writing Gruesome Ghost Stories' is a comprehensive, ideas-rich app designed for both busy classroom teachers AND pupils! The teacher and pupil editions are in fact combined in one app and that's not all. If you enter the 'Pupil Edition' you can choose either a single user option or a group (up to ten pupils each with individual log-ins) option.

The app is divided into easily accessible sections, key among which are,

a) Ghost story characters
b) Ghost story settings
c) Ghost story dilemmas

In each of these three sections a suggested 'menu-of-possibilities' is detailed followed by a 'My Notes' section in which teachers and/or pupils can add additional ideas, lesson plans etc.

A further key section is entitled 'Ghost Story Plot Skeletons' - the bare bones of twenty five ghost story plots which can be 'fleshed out' / expanded into finished stories by pupils. In the introduction to this section I explain how to use the plot skeletons in class. They are particularly useful when considering whole story plots!

The app also includes a 'Glossary' section which is designed to help teachers and pupils to consider/learn a variety of language features of ghost stories. We've titled it 'Ever Expanding...' as you can add as many additional ideas as you wish to each letter of the glossary. It expands as your knowledge of the genre expands and it saves your ideas in-app!

Dropbox and Email integration remain an integral part of each of our apps and the ability to save your own notes (in-app) and share ideas (via Dropbox or email) is a central plank of the global raising-standards agenda.

This is the first in a planned series of apps, each of which will focus on a single narrative genre - Fairytales will follow and then Science Fiction.

Please note: the Teacher password is set at Teacher1.

Let's get writing!

Exciting Sentences: Pupil EditionExciting Sentences: Pupil Edition
(iPhone & iPad)

Alan Peat's incredibly popular and effective Exciting Sentences approach is now available for pupils, students and teachers to use in the brand new App, Exciting Sentences: Pupil Edition.
For the first time, students will have their own App which allows them to:
• Learn about each of the 25 Exciting Sentence Types (from Alan Peat's Writing Exciting Sentences) including descriptions and examples.
• Create and save their own examples of each sentence type directly in the app.
• Document (in app) examples of the sentence types they have discovered while reading.
• Record notes and ideas for each sentence type.
• Share all of their examples and notes via Dropbox, or print them directly from the app.

A grammar glossary for students has also been included. This relates to the sentence types and will help pupils to understand the technical terms for the grammar rules they see and use. They can also save notes within this section of the app.
All of this will help them to, over time, build up a running record of the exciting sentences and grammar that they understand and can use in their own writing.

The app has also been designed to be used by up to ten pupils at a time.
Each pupil within the group has their own area of the app where they can create their own examples and notes for each sentence type. Each group member's examples and notes are then added to a group "page" called 'Our Sentence Types' (as opposed to the 'My Sentence Types' section for individuals) which means anyone in the group, or the teacher, can quickly glance over all of the group members' work in one place – great for collaborative work and peer editing! This can also be printed. The app also caters for a single pupil working independently.
Teacher control: teachers have access to a settings page, allowing them to remove individual pupils from a group, or to clear all data from the app for future use by a new group or individual. This is password protected. The password is currently set at "Teacher1".

"I have used Alan's exciting sentences in my teaching for many years with fantastic results. This app is extremely useful when planning and teaching using the sentence types. It is a very handy quick reference guide. A must have!"
Bryn Goodman
Primary Teacher and
Gifted & Talented Coordinator

Alan Peat's sentence types are already used in 22 countries. Now, for the first time, they are available as an app with genre-links and in-built interactivity.

The Alan Peat Pocket App of Exciting Sentences provides teachers and parents with 25 'consistent-language' sentence types, clearly explained and right there on either iPad or iPhone instantly at hand.

The app includes an Introduction to the sentence types with THREE sets of examples for each sentence: generic examples; genre-specific examples (both fiction and non-fiction) and Mathew Sullivan's Introductory language/ Intermediate language/ Higher order examples.

Additionally the App includes a 'Developmental Continuum' designed to help schools and parents to understand when (and how!) to best introduce the sentence types – ideal for 'whole school' approaches to grammar.

For ease-of-use the app also features a 'Sentence Grammar Glossary' using plain English to explain complex grammatical features of sentences, with the useful addition of embedded teaching tips.

Finally the app also allows users to make and save their own personal notes/ lesson plans directly in-app. You can also back them up to Dropbox and email them directly from the app: two handy tools for networks of schools seeking to share ideas and planning!

The Alan Peat Pocket Punctuation AppPunctuation
(iPhone & iPad)

"Another useful app from Alan Peat. Very clear teaching strategies and activities provided to help children understand and develop their use of punctuation. Alan's 'Keep it simple; make it stick' approach will once again help children learn how to use a variety of punctuation correctly. "
Mary Farmer
Primary Teacher &
Apple Distinguished Educator

The Alan Peat Pocket Punctuation App is the definitive guide to punctuation. It includes precise definitions of each punctuation mark and fun-to-learn activities for class or home use.
The definitions can easily be shown on interactive whiteboards or devices being used by pupils/adults. The engaging 'Teaching Activities' can be accessed with a single click.

Alan's last app, 'The Alan Peat Pocket App of Exciting Sentences' went to Number One in the UK Education Charts for both iPad and iPhone - feedback indicated that the interactive nature of the app was a key feature you liked. We have included the same interactive elements in this app: note- taking and lesson planning features for each punctuation mark! Notes and lesson plans can even be saved 'in app'.

Additionally we have linked the note taking / lesson planning section with Dropbox and email so that lesson plans and notes can be shared among staff. This collaborative planning feature was a key aspect of the app's design.

We have also included a 'Punctuation face' which uses associative hooks to help pupils remember each punctuation face. Just click on the relevant part of the face and the punctuation definition appears. Tap on the eyes and the exclamation mark definition appears; tap on the cheek and the colon definition appears etc.

With a huge amount of content and a plethora of teaching ideas, we hope you'll make this your 'go-to' app for punctuation.
